Is Your Google Business Profile AI-Ready? 10 Things to Fix Now

Your Google Business Profile feeds directly into Gemini and serves as a trust anchor for other AI engines. Here are 10 fixes to make it AI-ready.

Most agents set up their GBP once and never touch it again. AI engines notice.

Your Google Business Profile is the single most important piece of real estate you own online — and you don't even host it. Google's data feeds directly into Gemini, and the other AI engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude) use it as a verification source when cross-referencing your identity and location.

When a buyer asks an AI engine for agent recommendations, one of the first things it checks is whether you have a complete, active, and consistent Google Business Profile. If your GBP is sparse, outdated, or missing key fields, you're starting the AI trust evaluation with a deficit.

The good news: fixing your GBP takes an afternoon, not a marketing budget. Here are the 10 things to fix right now.

The 10 Fixes

1. Complete Every Single Field

This sounds obvious, but most agents leave 30-40% of available GBP fields empty. AI engines treat empty fields as missing data — and missing data is a trust gap.

Go through every section: business name, category, address, phone, website, hours, description, attributes, services, products, and "from the business" fields. If a field exists, fill it. An incomplete profile tells AI you're either inactive or not established enough to recommend.

2. Write a 750-Character Description Using Natural Keywords

Your GBP description is one of the few places where you directly control what AI reads about you. Don't waste it on generic copy like "providing excellent service for over 20 years."

Instead, write a 750-character description that naturally includes your city, neighborhoods, property types, and specialties. For example:

"Sarah Chen is a luxury real estate agent serving Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and the greater Phoenix area. Specializing in waterfront properties and golf course communities, Sarah has helped over 200 families buy and sell homes in the $800K-$5M range. Licensed in Arizona since 2014, she's consistently ranked among the top 3% of agents in the Scottsdale MLS."

This description gives AI engines five machine-extractable signals: name, location, specialty, price range, and credential. Generic descriptions give zero.

3. Add All Service Areas

AI engines match your profile to geographic queries using the "Service Areas" field. If someone asks "best agents in Chandler" and Chandler isn't listed in your service areas, you're excluded from that match — even if Chandler is five miles from your office.

Add every city, neighborhood, and community you actively serve. Google allows up to 20 service areas. Use all 20 if you can. Be specific: "Old Town Scottsdale" is a better signal than "Scottsdale" for neighborhood-level queries.

4. Upload 25+ Photos with Descriptive Filenames

Before you upload, rename your files. IMG_4521.jpg tells AI nothing. luxury-home-scottsdale-paradise-valley.jpg tells it exactly what the image shows and where.

Google recommends at least 25 photos for service businesses. Include:

  • Professional headshot
  • Office exterior and interior
  • Recent listings you've represented (with permission)
  • Neighborhood landmarks in your service area
  • Team photos if applicable

Photo quantity and quality correlate with GBP engagement metrics, which in turn influence how Google's own AI (Gemini) evaluates your profile.

5. Enable Messaging and Set Accurate Business Hours

AI engines evaluate whether a business is accessible. Messaging enabled and accurate hours signal that you're active and reachable. Inaccurate hours — or worse, no hours listed — suggest neglect.

If your hours vary seasonally, update them. If you take calls outside standard hours, add those. This small detail is a recency signal: Google logs when you last updated your hours.

6. Post Weekly Updates

Google Business Profile posts are one of the strongest recency signals available to you. They tell AI engines that your business is active right now — not just that it existed when you set up the profile.

Post once a week. It doesn't need to be long. Options:

  • A new listing announcement
  • A market stat for your area
  • A sold property celebration
  • A local event or community highlight
  • A brief market insight or buying/selling tip

Each post stays visible for 7 days, so weekly posting keeps your profile permanently fresh. Most agents don't post at all, so this alone puts you ahead of 90% of your competition in AI readiness.

7. Add a FAQ Section with Structured Q&A

GBP has a Questions & Answers section that many agents ignore entirely. Worse, some let random users answer questions about their business.

Take control: pre-populate 10-15 questions and answer them yourself. Use questions that match what buyers actually ask:

  • "What neighborhoods do you cover?"
  • "Do you work with first-time buyers?"
  • "What's the average home price in [your area]?"
  • "How long does it take to sell a home in [your market]?"

These Q&As are structured data that AI engines can parse directly. They also reduce the chance of inaccurate answers from other users showing up on your profile.

8. Respond to Every Review Within 48 Hours

AI engines don't just count your reviews — they evaluate your engagement with them. Responding to reviews signals that you're active, attentive, and professional.

The 48-hour window matters because Google logs response time. A pattern of rapid responses builds a stronger engagement signal than sporadic replies weeks later.

Respond to negative reviews professionally and specifically. Respond to positive reviews with genuine thanks and a personal detail (mentioning the neighborhood or property type reinforces geographic and specialty signals).

9. Add Your License Number in the Business Description

This is a small detail with outsized impact. Your real estate license number is a verifiable credential that AI engines can cross-reference with state licensing databases. It's a trust signal that moves you from "claims to be an agent" to "verified agent."

Add it to your business description: "Arizona Real Estate License #SA123456789." It takes five seconds and adds a data point that most competitors don't provide.

10. Link to a Page with Matching Schema Markup

Your GBP links to your website — but does your website link back with structured data? When your website has RealEstateAgent schema markup that matches the name, address, and phone number on your GBP, you create a two-way verification loop.

AI engines see the GBP data, visit your website, find matching schema markup, and gain confidence that both sources describe the same verified entity. Without this match, each source is evaluated independently. With it, they reinforce each other.

How to Verify AI Engines Are Reading Your GBP

After making these fixes, test whether AI engines are picking up your updated information.

Gemini test: Ask Google's Gemini "Tell me about [your name] real estate agent in [your city]." Since Gemini has direct access to Google's data, it should reflect your GBP information most quickly.

Cross-engine test: Ask the same question on ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude. Compare what each engine knows about you. Gaps between engines tell you which data sources are missing — if Gemini knows you but ChatGPT doesn't, your strength is in Google's ecosystem but your directory presence or content authority may need work.

Timeline: GBP changes typically take 1-2 weeks to propagate through AI engines. Don't expect instant results. Run the test again in 14 days and compare.
